Saturday 22th May & Sunday 23rd May
Saturday 22nd was the first day of The 2004 Laser & Singlehanded Open Races
An hour before the start of the first race the race flag hardly moving, plus the lack of visiting boats, not an inspiring encounter for Race Officer Steve Jones.
ALL CHANGE! The first race started with challenging tacking against a strong flood tide and a pleasant NW 2-3 setting in made even better with the bright wall to wall sunshine. An interesting course with two gybe marks testing the helms skills.
The second race equally exciting in the now increasing breeze, again with two gybe marks plus two fast reaches.
By the start of the third race the wind had backed, the sea breeze now a good 3-4 with short steep, white capped waves taking it's toll on two boats with broken gear resulting in spectacular capsizes.
All three races dominated by MARK BAMBER in the LASER. We all had a great day in typical Glasson conditions, you would be hard pressed to find better-----anywhere. Thanks go out to Steve & Pete Jones and Paul Reid for OOD & rescue service (bring your camera next time) Thank you Steve and Anne for the catering, the sandwiches were great. A great deal of effort goes into making these events happen, may I thank you all for your sterling efforts, Ivanocean.
Sunday 23rd - Second Day . Another great day for us all with identical conditions to Saturday
Three races, all in N-W 3_4 AND SUNSHINE! first two races again dominated by MARK BAMBER in the LASER with ROBERT HOLMES in the TOPPER chasing him each race and eventually winning the last race.
Again, many thanks to STEVE for First Class courses, ANDY, PETE and PAUL manning the rescue boat, and STEVE also made the splendid sandwiches ----- both day's. HAPPY SAILING Ivanocean.
Five out of the six races counted.
